Greece adopts the green dot
Greece has become the fifteenth European country to adopt the “green dot” as a symbol for packaging recycling. In August 2001 the Greek government passed its own waste packaging legislation and created a company, Hellenic Recycling and Recovery Association (H.E.R.A), to carry out collection and recycling. Around two-thirds of EU countries now use the green dot, which is awarded by the European umbrella association Pro Europe (www.pro-europe.org).
