Sweden: 24,000 t of plastic packaging recycled
Swedish material recovery and recycling group Plastkretsen (S-11485 Stockholm; www.plastkretsen.se) claims to have mechanically recycled some 24,000 t of used plastic packaging in 2002. Another 26,000 t was incinerated for energy generation and an additional 40,000 t was mixed with ordinary household waste to provide district heating. In Sweden, transport and industrial packaging, as well as consumer waste, bears the green recycling dot.
