Tyco to close 30 plastics plants, lay off 1,900
As part of a move to consolidate operations in North America, Tyco International (West Windsor, New Jersey / USA; www.tyco.com) plans to close 30 plastics and adhesives facilities – locations have not yet been disclosed – and lay off 1,900 employees of the segment Tyco Plastics & Adhesives (www.tycoplastics.com), one of the largest US films producers with annual sales of USD 1.9 bn, was involved in a major US accounting scandal last year. In 2001, the plastics arm acquired the films activities of Scottish packaging group Macfarlane.
