PLYSU
Takeover of Body Shop's in house moulding / Acquisition of Simon Renfrew Containers
Plysu PLC (Woburn Sands, Milton Keynes GB-Bucks MK17 8SE) has recently made further moves to enhance its position in the market for personal care product packaging. Already one of Europe's largest blow moulding groups, it has now concluded a deal to takeover the manufacture of plastic bottles and other plastic components currently produced in house by The Body Shop International PLC (Watersmead Business Park, Littlehampton, GB-West Sussex BN17 6LS). The Body Shop, which is a major manufacturer and retailer of skin and hair care products with over 1,500 stores in 47 countries, has been carrying out its own in house blow and injection moulding since 1991. Now it will transfer its plastics moulding division to Plysu and award the company an ongoing contract for the supply of plastic bottles and packaging. The agreement will cover over 100m components/y. Existing equipment from Body Shop's Littlehampton site will be transferred to one or more of Plysu's existing UK sites. No financial details of the deal were given.
In a separate announcement, Plysu has acquired Simon Renfrew Containers (SRC, 17-19 Springvale Industrial Estate, GB-Cwmbran NP44 5BA). This small privately owned blow moulding business had an annual turnover of GBP 3m with profit before tax of GBP 400,000 for the year to 30th June 1997. It specialises in the growing private label toiletries sector and will form part of Plysu's personal care division based at AMK Plastics (Llantrisant Business Park, Llantrisant, GB-Mid Glamorgan CF72 8LF) which was acquired in 1995. The deal includes machinery, assets and employees of SRC. The initial cash consideration is GBP 1.6m plus a deferred consideration of up to a further GBP 500,000 depending on the future performance of the business.
