PLASTIC PRESSURE PIPES
Sabic forecasts that global market for HDPE pressure pipes will reach 5m t in 2013 / Shin-Etsu examines alternatives to lead stabilisers
Major players in the global pressure pipe business recently gathered at a conference organised by British market research company Applied Market Information (AMI, Bristol / UK; www.amiplastics.com) to discuss market developments and innovations.
At the event, representatives of Sabic (Riyadh / Saudi Arabia; www.sabic.com) predicted that the global market fore HDPE pressure pipes will grow from 4m t in 2008 to almost 5m t in 2013, with European growth clusters in central and eastern Europe as well as Russia and the CIS states.
Conference participants also discussed industry-related challenges, including wall thickness, resistance to various disinfectants and other influences, as well as the latest innovations. One such example concerns the phase-out of lead stabilisers. In this regard, Shin-Etsu (Tokyo / Japan; www.shin-etsu.co.jp) has examined the effects a Ca/Zn alternative has on pipe performance.
