For the French plastics processing group Plastic Omnium (HQ: 1 rue du Parc, F-92300 Levallios), the current financial year started more positively than in 1993, although group sales decreased by 2% during the first four months of 1994. After the striking slump in performance of the previous year of 52.4% to FF 61.2m, a strong increase in profits is expected. Primarily because of a drastic reorganisation of the acquired companies – however without achieving the former level of earnings. In addition, the products introduced in the motor vehicle sector and in the newly developed products in the operational sector of "waste management technology" are according to Plastic Omnium extremely promising.

The activities in the field of motor vehicle supplies – here Plastic Omnium, according to their own statements, are among the leading manufacturers of bumpers in Europe and hold about 15% of this market – are to be extended. The recent acquisition of the Spanish plastic petrol tank producer Vasam – annual sales of about FF 100m – points this way. A new car components plant in South Carolina/USA, supplier to the neighbouring BMW and General Motors plants, is expected to be put into operation in June 1995.

In general, the group consolidated sales of Plastic Omnium at FF 4.4bn remained almost constant in 1993. The operational sector "waste management technology" did, however, take advantage of the favourable economic situation with respect to waste containers which, among other reasons, has been caused by the rising amount of separately collected garbage, so that there was an upswing in volume sales in the sector of "environmental technology" in many European countries as well as in the United States and in Asia. Despite fierce price wars and strong competition, the international market share in the field of waste management technology was continuously expanded. Apart from the introduction of new concepts for collecting containers, 1993 was, according to Plastic Omnium, characterized by the acquisition of Lander, an enterprise which is one of the leading manufacturers in the large-container market in Italy.
