PLASTIC FANTASTIC
The new straw lets you “eat after drinking”

In many a Hollywood movie, spies are handed their assignments on tiny pieces of paper, which ought to be destroyed immediately after they’ve been read. And hence, this eradication of evidence is termed “Burn After Reading”.
Now, cocktail-thirsty people in the Philippines are going to face a similar task: edible straws – made of rice flour and tapioca starch – are about to hit the markets, to replace the usual, plastic stuff. Once you’re done with your drink, you can eat the straw like a mini snack. Or if the Bloody Mary is not to your liking, you can just gnaw at the straw without finishing your drink. So, if your food order gets delayed, you can (quite literally) grasp at straws!
