PLASTIC FANTASTIC
Dressed for recycling success
Look, mom, new uniforms! (Photo: Easyjet)
Pilots and cabin crew at UK budget airline Easyjet are about to get new clothes made of old stuff: the carrier plans to begin issuing uniforms created from used plastic bottles. The company said 45 bottles will go into each uniform as part of its commitment to cut waste and carbon use. Easyjet noted that over the course of the five-year uniform contract, it will be responsible for preventing 2.7m plastic bottles from ending up in landfill or in oceans.

The material is said to be more abrasion resistant and longer lasting. No word on how good the uniforms are at withstanding food tossed by children or repelling insults thrown by unruly passengers!
