PLASTIC FANTASTIC
A royal affair in plastic
When Harry married Meghan: the royal wedding in plastic (Photo: Legoland Windsor) |
The world loves a royal wedding, and children young and old love legos. To many, then, Legoland Windsor Resort’s recreation of the sumptuous nuptials of Meghan and Harry in 60,000 tiny bricks looked like a fairy tale. No matter that the bricks are made of plastic, a material not so much en vogue these days.
It took 752 hours and 60,000 pieces of ABS to create the entire scene – from the convoluted castle to the 10-cm tall bride and groom with families and invited celebrities, right down to Elton John in rose-coloured glasses and a Spice Girl wrapped in a Union Jack flag.
Publicity for the project noted that no detail had been left out. Well one, maybe: not only the plebeian plastic onlookers are faceless, but the royals themselves. So how could “ginger-haired” Harry look into the eyes of his “raven haired bride?”
One detail worth mentioning is that when the expensive creation is removed from display in November, it will be added to the resort’s collection – and not end up as plastic waste in the belly of a dolphin!
