PLASTIC FANTASTIC
Out of the darkness
A new year and a new engaging installation in Katowice (Photo: Fundacja antyRAMA) |
An underpass is not the most welcoming of places. It's dark and draughty, with a musty smell and the feeling that someone has just moved underneath that newspaper. All the same, the city of Katowice has shown that an underpass can become a showpiece. The Polish artist collective antyRAMA has built installation art out of colourful LEDs and 2,018 white PVC tubes.
Since there is always some kind of breeze there, the hanging tubes become wind chimes. Passers-by can help out a bit and play a part in the musical installation. Whether the underpass will become a safer place isn't certain, but it definitely has a beautiful aura in the darkness now.
