PLASTIC FANTASTIC
From plastic rags to Messi riches
The “feel-good” stories that emerge from places like Afghanistan are few and far between. All the more reason to devote some lines to a modern-day fairy tale involving a boy and a plastic bag. After a photo of 5-year-old Murtasa Ahmadi sporting a plastic bag decorated with blue stripes and the name "Messi" on it went viral, it did not take long for the football star to step in and send a signed jersey to the boy, who is now probably the “biggest, smallest” Lionel Messi fan in the ravaged country.

UNICEF helped track down little Murtasa, who may soon also be visiting Barcelona and meeting his idol in person.
