Walk like a chairless chair

What has four legs, a back and lets you sit still? – Why, it can only be a chair, can it not? Wrong – at least if the new seating solution introduced by Audi is anything to go by. Since workers at its assembly lines often have to stand for long hours, leading to back and knee problems, the automotive producer has come up with an innovative legless, backless and moving chair.
Dubbed the “chairless chair”, it consists of a carbon fibre exo-skeleton that is fixed to the operator’s ankles, the back of the leg and the hip, and hydraulically brought into the desired sitting position. It remains to be seen whether the new seating arrangements sit well with the employees…
