PLASTIC FANTASTIC
By the beard of Tutankhamun

If mummies could talk, then the shoddy work that was done on Tutankhamun’s beard might have been discovered earlier. It turns out that at some point or another, the mighty king’s golden beard broke off as a museum worker attempted to replace the lights in the glass coffin in which the former king’s sarcophagus is displayed. To avoid all hell from breaking loose over the broken beard, the culprit turned to a clever little helper, and used an epoxy resin adhesive to put the king back together again.

Alas, the quick fix could not mask out the fact that the king’s beard seemed to be having a bad day. Far from being good as gold, it will now likely take experts months to remove the plastic glue from the artefact and figure out a more historically appropriate way to reattach the beard.
