PLASTIC FANTASTIC
The tale of the PET bottle that got lost in 1920s England
If the trailers for the new season of UK hit series “Downton Abbey” are anything to go by, it looks like Dr. Emmett "Doc" Brown of “Back to the Future” will make an appearance in 1920s England. How else can the PET bottle, neatly seated on top of the fireplace next to Victorian porcelain, be explained? While the Crawley family women are in many ways ahead of their time, the PET bottle was first introduced in the UK in the 1960s.

The photos have generated a massive reaction on social media, prompting the series’ actors to turn the faux-pas into an opportunity, turning the so-called “water-bottle-gate” into a call for donations for “WaterAid”.
