If Hermes walked the earth today, he would probably forgo his golden winged sandals for the new smartphone-navigated polyurethane shoe recently launched by India’s Ducere Technologies. Called “Lechal” – Hindi for “Take me there” – the show does have a mythical aura about it, much like Hermes’ sandals literally flew him to where he wanted to be next. Lechal does so by means of vibrating on the side of the foot the shoe would like you to turn to.
However, while Hermes’ sandals were guided by divine intervention, it remains unclear where Lechal will take you when your smartphone loses its Internet connection or your map app does not recognise the area. You might just find yourself walking in the woods…
