The flying Dyson man
There have been a number of initiatives and ideas to get rid of the thousands of tonnes of plastic waste that float across the world’s oceans. Now vacuum cleaner guru James Dyson is joining in the efforts. The idea: Sail a ship equipped with massive drag nets across the oceans, gathering all plastic waste encountered. The garbage is then sucked up by Dyson’s vacuum cleaners, and automatically sorted and recycled on deck.

Since it remains unclear how fish and other marine animals would avoid being caught up in the nets, the idea remains quite elusive. Even if Dyson manages to develop a proper technique, with ever new reports on the frightening amount of plastics floating the seas, his vessel might be doomed to sail the oceans forever…
