PLASTIC FANTASTIC
We are just human "beans" after all...
![]() What's your preferred method for opening a can? |
No, no, it is not a computer typo and no we did not write the text on our smartphone. Instead, the Plasteurope.com editorial team has been having a good chuckle upon learning that in the UK, over the last two years some 25 million individuals have injured themselves trying to open a can of baked beans. Some badly enough that it required professional medical attention. A recent survey indicated that 4 out of 10 Britons have suffered an injury attempting to pry off the lid. Perhaps they were so hungry after a hard day's work they cut themselves opening a can for dinner, or maybe they were so sleepy from the night before that the injury occurred in the wee hours of the morning in the midst of preparing breakfast. Our sources provided no information when the accidents happened, but they did tell us how: 89% with scissors, 66% with a kitchen knife; 8% with a carpet knife and 4% using a razor blade and just 2% working with a hammer. Why this task has proven so dangerous is a mystery.
One fact is certain: if the beans were packed in a plastic container, there would be no need for writing this story! Oops, off to dinner...
