PLASTIC FANTASTIC
Pulling art out of the bag
It is a well-known fact that – aside from an addiction to shoes – women are also obsessed with bags. Large, big, small, useful or fancy, preferably from a fancy designer, as “gatherers”, the female sex is known to love a pouch to store things in. Yet hardly any woman would testify to a desire to collect plastic bags, no matter how fancy they are. But visitors to the industrial museum in Winterthur / Switzerland could end up surprised by the beauty of what governments across the world are increasingly banning. Entitled “Oh Plastiksack” (Oh Plastic Bag), the exhibition showcases the works of more than 30 international artists, who … well … suffer from a different kind of bag obsession.
