While it is debatable whether the US and EU sanctions on Iran are having the desired impact, one thing is clear: The American authorities are not joking around when it comes to attempts to export “high-technology commodities” to the Islamic Republic. That lesson was painfully learned by a New York resident who was sentenced to 92 months in jail for trying to export a spool of carbon fibre from the US via the Philippines to Iran. Alas, plasticity is not a characteristic typical of the law or the undercover agents the culprit was in touch with. M surely would be proud…
