PLASTIC FANTASTIC
Cinderella's dream come true or Prince Charming's nightmare?
Imagine having 256 different shoe styles – and all with just 16 modular parts connected by silicone rubber. Sharon Golan, a graduate from Jerusalem’s Bezalel Academy of Arts has achieved just that: the ultimate shoe experience, all thanks to the versatility of plastics. Inspired by fruit peel, egg, earth and conch and made of thermoplastic polymer panels, silicone and epoxy-based paint, the single shoe collection allows for 256 different styles – meaning fashionistas only have to wear the same design nine times a year. Aside from the strong do-it-yourself component, Golan’s idea also saves space – 255 shoe boxes at the least. The question remains: Would Prince Charming find his Cinderella by fitting this futuristic modular model – and how long would it take him?
