PLASTICS WASTE
Germany remains the largest exporter of plastics waste in the EU – Destatis
According to a report by German federal statistical office, Destatis (Wiesbaden; www.destatis.de), the country again exported less plastics waste abroad in 2022 than in the previous year – 745,100 t instead of 766,200 t, to be precise.

Viewed over the long term, this means that the amount of exported plastics waste has been more than halved – a 51% reduction over the past 10 years (1.5 mn t in 2012). According to the statisticians, one reason for the decline lies in the import restrictions imposed by some Asian countries.

Most plastics waste was exported to the Netherlands in 2022. With 153,000 t, about one-fifth of the total exports went there. Turkey and Poland followed in second and third place, with just under 92,000 t and 82,000 t, respectively.
