RecyClass (Brussels; www.recyclass.eu) has developed two new modules to strengthen the certification of closed- and controlled loop recycling.

The plastics recycling auditing scheme said the documents marked “a significant step in the transparent reporting of the origin and use of all recycled plastics, especially for PVC waste”.

As part of the RecyClass Recycling Process certification, the PVC Requirements module is applicable to plastics recyclers of PVC waste. 

Meanwhile, the Loop Requirements module in the RecyClass Recycled Plastics Traceability certification allows for the verification of requirements covering the use of recycled plastics in a closed-loop system for all sectors, as well as controlled loop applications in PVC products for a wide range of other plastics value chain actors, such as converters.

The new modules are linked to new EU regulations, which address lead and its compounds in PVC and mandate certification of controlled loop requirements for rigid PVC recycling, along with its traceability; they come into effect in November.

Last December, RecyClass and another auditing scheme, EuCertPlast (www.eucertplast.eu), announced they were combining their certification for plastics recycling processes. 

The newly formed RecyClass Recycling Process certification would enable increased transparency within the plastics recycling industry, thereby building trust in recycling claims, both organisations said.
