European Plastics Converters (EuPC, Brussels / Belgium; www.plasticsconverters.eu) has announced a partnership with a plastics tracing project to improve the EuPC’s online monitoring platform “MOnitoring Recyclates for Europe” (MORE) set up in 2019 (see Plasteurope.com of 26.04.2019). EuPC said it will work with the Circularise Plastics Group – a collaboration currently comprised of Dutch blockchain start-up Circularise (The Hague; www.circularise.com) and German plastics suppliers Domo Chemicals (Leuna; www.domochemicals.com) and Covestro (Leverkusen; www.covestro.com).
The plan is to bring together stakeholders that can contribute to the development of MORE and “Circularise Plastics”, a platform launched in the same year by the Circularise Plastics Group. The Circularise system seeks to improve polymer traceability and transparency in plastics supply chains (see Plasteurope.com of 14.10.2019), and the group announced in September the receipt of EUR 1.5m in funding from the European Commission for its next stage of growth (see Plasteurope.com of 15.09.2020).
“With the rise of new technologies, such as blockchain, we look to incorporate them in our monitoring system to ensure that the MORE platform is future-proof,” EuPC MD Alexandre Dangis said. “Circularise has the technology and vision that aligns with ours and we look forward to cooperating on the development of the recyclates monitoring system.”
EuPC said the partners aim to test a prototype system with a list of target companies in the coming months.
