Toys containing DEHP banned in Australia
The Australian government has banned toys and baby products containing the plasticiser DEHP following concerns that it could cause reproductive problems. Consumer Affairs Minister Craig Emerson said any plastic baby products containing more than 1% DEHP are now prohibited for sale in Australia.
“This is largely a precautionary measure,” he said. “Research has shown there is a risk factor when products containing this chemical are chewed or sucked for long periods.” Products covered by the ban include dummies, bowls, plates, cups, cutlery, soft books and rattles.
