Spanish plastics industry association, Asociación Española de Industriales de Plásticos (ANAIP, Madrid; www.anaip.es), has inked an agreement with Plastics Europe (Brussels; www.plasticseurope.org) to renew the 2016 Operation Clean Sweep (OCS) collaboration agreement, which aims to lower the loss of pellets throughout the supply chain in the plastic industry.
Over 300 companies have joined the initiative in Spain, implementing measures to prevent the loss of pellets at more than 400 facilities. In addition, 27 companies obtained OCS certificates under a reportedly pioneering scheme, in which firms are audited by a third party to confirm the programme’s conditions are met. Based on the Spanish scheme, Plastics Europe and EuPC (Brussels; www.plasticsconverters.eu) are now developing a certification method at the European level to expand the number of certified companies.

Under the renewed agreement, ANAIP and Plastics Europe Iberia intend to strengthen their collaboration with Spanish public institutions, regional and local administrations, and NGOs. One of the objectives is to raise awareness among companies and workers in areas of particular importance for the plastic industry, such as the industrial area of Tarragona.
