Recycled PET containers offer clear view of food / FDA approved material
Thermoformed plastic packaging specialist Placon (Madison, Wisconsin / USA; www.placon.com) has introduced the “Crystal Seal reFresh” packaging line that brings together recycled PET and tamper-evident design with high package clarity for the sale of a range of foodstuffs including fresh cut fruit and vegetables, sandwiches, cookies and single slices of pie.

The range is available in eight sizes and shapes that can be used in a number of configurations with multiple food combinations for versatility at points of sale. The packaging combines a hinge that alerts if tampering has occurred along with a leak-resistant design, tight seals and tabs that are made for easy opening and closing by consumers.

The recycled PET containers have been designed to maximise the structural integrity of the packaging while ensuring ribbing is kept to a minimum, creating a more “invisible” package. The FDA food-grade containers include portion-sized, multi-compartment packaging along with containers for half sandwiches and pre-packaged fresh meals. They are manufactured from collected plastic bottles and thermoforms containing up to 100% post-consumer content.
