Since 1 January 1998, PKL Verpackungssysteme GmbH (PO Box 1212, D-52438 Linnich) has been operating under the name SIG Combibloc GmbH. Its Austrian sister company PKL Verpackungssysteme Saalfelden GmbH also changed its name into SIG Combibloc GmbH (Industriestr. 3, A-5760 Saalfelden). Both companies belong to the SIG Schweizerische Industrie-Gesellschaft Group. The Swiss parent company is currently pursuing a new strategic approach on the world market, which also involves a global name change for the former PKL Group to "SIG Combibloc". SIG Combibloc is present at 40 locations throughout the world. The West European markets are looked after from Linnach, whilst Saalfelden is responsible for coordinating East European business. New regional companies are to react more effectively than before to global customer needs.

Combibloc's production lines offer customised solutions from packaging development, via filling technology through to final packaging. All types of liquid foods can be packed aseptically in composite cartons. By contrast to other packaging systems, the composite cartons with a polyethylene coating (and an optional aluminium coating) are prefabricated at Combibloc and have their longitudinal seam sealed. A total of 40 different pack sizes are possible, from 125 ml to 2 litres. With a filling volume of one litre, the company puts its filling capacity at 7,000 to 12,000 packs per hour.
