PIOLAX
Automotive moulder starts up new UK plant / Nissan and Honda are main customers
UK injection moulder Piolax (Altham Business Park, Altham, Nr Accrington, GB-Lancashire BB5 5YH) has moved into a new, GBP 5m (EUR 8.3m) factory housing 30 machines. This has effectively doubled its capacity for production of fasteners and latching systems for the automotive market, where Nissan and Honda are its principal customers. The 3,000 square metres plant is on a one hectare site, with plans for expansion, in two stages, on a further 2.5 hectares.
First established in the UK in 1995 in nearby Burnley, Piolax is the UK subsidiary of a Japanese parent company with a global turnover of GBP 200m (EUR 330m). The UK operation, which now has 72 staff, has sales of GBP 8m (EUR 13.3m). Some 80% of production is accounted for by injection moulding, with metal forming and assembly operations accounting for the other 20%.
Most of the UK company´s turnover is achieved locally, but sales are also made into mainland Europe, where, as yet, there are no Piolax production facilities. However, the publicly-owned organisation has plans for further global expansion.
