New type of mailing bag: Envelope and PE film can be easily separated
The Dutch Pillo-Pak Sentinel Group (PSG, Coldenhovenseweg 89, NL-6961 EC Eerbeek) have introduced their newly developed mailing bag "Airkraft Bag-in-Bag" as a world novelty. The cushioned bag consists of two single materials, a tough uncoated Kraft paper envelope and an air-cushioned filling made from PE-LD film. What is significant is that the two materials can be easily separated. The envelope and the seamless air-cushioned film bag are not welded together but instead only glued at a few points. Some recycled material will be used in the manufacture of the air-cushion bags. PSG insists that both products can be re-used many times either singly or together, and can then be recycled as paper or PE. The protective function is equivalent to that of the present "Airkraft" mailing bag.

PSG belongs to the Protective Packaging Division in the Packaging Business Area of KNP BT-Group, Amsterdam. PSG includes Pillo-Pak as well as two other companies, Sentinel Foam Products Europe NV (Bodemstraat 11, B-3830 Wellen) and Sentinel GmbH Verpackungen (Industriestr. 26, D-73441 Bopfingen). In Belgium, PSG Sentinel is an important European producer of uncrosslinked closed-cell PE foam. The foam is manufactured by gas injection technology, and is available as rolls, sheets or profiles at a density of 20 to 150 kg/ccm and in thicknesses from 0.8mm to 110 mm. All of the PE foam is produced using butane gas rather than HCFHC's or HCFHC's, which damage the ozone layer. In 1993, PSG achieved turnover in excess of DM 110m from 450 employees at the three sites.
