BP shuts PS line at Marl, Germany
The BP group (www.bp.com), GB-London, has shut down a 30,000 t/y production line for polystyrene at Marl, Germany, citing "sustained low prices and overcapacity" in the European market. The capacity will be permanently removed, a BP spokesman confirmed to Plasteurope.com. No jobs are to be lost in the shutdown. BP says it expects no delivery bottlenecks, as the group has remaining PS capacities of 400,000 t/y in Europe at Marl, Trelleborg (Sweden) and Wingles (France), which are sufficient to supply its customers.
