Österreichische Kunststoff Kreislauf AG (ÖKK, www.okk.co.at), Vienna, the company that awards the "green dot" for recyclable plastic packaging in Austria, has guaranteed that all the packaging material collected and separated within the Altstoff Recycling Austria (ARA, www.ara.at) system will be reused, most of this within the country. Figures for 2003 show that in Austria 109,501 t of used plastic packaging were recycled (101,700 t in 2002). Sorted packaging accounted for 51,339 t (47,100 t), while 58,162 t (54,600 t) was a mixed fraction. Recycling of PET bottles was especially dynamic in 2003, rising to 24,750 t from 20,000 t in 2002.
