TCG to acquire state stake in Haldia, denies Bush link to Basell
Indian-born US investor Purnendu Chatterjee is spending INR 15 bn (around EUR 275m) to acquire the remaining shares held by the Indian state of West Bengal in petrochemicals group Haldia Petrochemicals(www.haldiapetrochemicals.com), New Delhi. Chatterjee's TCG fund - which, together with investor Len Blavatnik is acquiring polyolefins giant Basell (www.basell.com), Hoofddorp / The Netherlands, from BASF and Shell - already owns 43% of Haldia. Several Indian press reports have pointed to a possible involvement of the Winston Partners private equity group, backed by Marvin Bush - brother of the US president - in the Basell deal, although TCG has denied a direct link.
