Innovia Films: UK cellophane factory to be closed
One of the two cellophane plants operated in the UK by Innovia Films (www.innoviafilms.com) is to be closed, with the loss of 250 jobs. The company says it has sufficient capacity at its factories in Wigton (UK) and Tecumseh (USA) to meet demand and it no longer requires the output from its Bridgwater, Somerset site. Bridgwater has remained profitable and its proposed closure has been fought by trade union officials in the UK, who claimed that the loss-making Tecumseh factory was receiving US government incentives to keep it open.
