European food grade HDPE recycling project completed
A major pan-European research project to produce food grade HDPE from recovered milk containers has been completed successfully by WRAP (www.wrap.org.uk), Banbury. The UK's Waste & Resources Action Programme examined all aspects of the collection, sorting, recycling and reprocessing of the recovered HDPE into fresh containers suitable for milk. Participants in the project included Delleve Plastics, Stratford upon Avon / UK; Sorema (www.sorema.it), Alzate Brianza, Como / Italy; Erema (www.erema.at), Linz / Austria, and Nampak Plastics (www.eu.nampak.com), Newport Pagnell / UK. Cost models for commercialisation of the process look viable, according to WRAP.
