Manufacturing campus in Poland for advanced medical devices, e-mobility components
US plastics electronics components manufacturer Molex (Lisle, Illinois; www.molex.com) expanded its global manufacturing footprint with the opening of a 23,000 m² manufacturing space in Katowice, Poland.

The facility is to facilitate delivery to European customers of electric vehicle and electrification solutions from Molex, and advanced medical devices – diagnostic devices, devices for dosing and administering self-care medication – from Molex company Phillips-Medisize (Hudson, Wisconsin; www.phillipsmedisize.com), an injection moulding specialist and contract manufacturer serving the pharmaceutical, diagnostic, and medtech markets.

The company says future expansion of up to 85,000 m² has already been planned. The first facilities within the campus are to employ 350 employees, including highly skilled production operators, design engineers, and quality specialists. The manufacturing site will feature advanced medical device assembly, packaging, drug handling, and injection moulding, the company said.

Molex has so far invested USD 110 mn in these facilities, which will initially support production from Phillips-Medisize. It is the medical technology specialist’s seventh European plant: similar devices have also been manufactured at sites in Donegal and Sligo (Ireland), Struer (Denmark), Kontiolahti (Finland), and Trhove Sviny (Czech Republic). Additionally, the campus will manufacture interconnect battery solutions for electric vehicles and high-power busbar solutions for Molex’s electrification business, the company said.

Molex is part of the US conglomerate Koch Industries (Wichita, Kansas; www.kochind.com).
