The French specialist for medical technology parts made of plastics, Moulage Industriel de Perseigne (MIP, Villeneuve-en-Perseigne; www.mip-plastic.com) has strengthened its position with a fourth plant in the country. MIP recently bought the production site in Le Vaudreuil near Rouen from US group West Pharmaceutical Services (Exton, Pennsylvania; www.westpharma.com). Financial details were not disclosed. The company has since been renamed to Pharmatec.

According to French media reports, 85 employees used to work at the Le Vaudreuil site. In April, representatives of the company’s works council expressed their dissatisfaction with the acquisition plans – mainly due to the fact that they are going from a global group, listed on the New York Stock Exchange, to a French SME.

MIP, led by Dominique Philippot, already operates a plant in Le Vaudreuil under the Pharmaval Plastic firm, and also owns compatriot firm Nor-Stick in Pont Audemer. The group, with a turnover of EUR 24 mn, produces and assembles components for medical technology applications, such as pre-fillable syringes and tubing.

Including the new acquisition, MIP now operates 55 injection moulding machines and 10 extrusion lines. Around 4,000 m² alone are reserved for cleanroom areas. The group says that it is processing all thermoplastics with the exception of PVC.

West Pharma operates about 50 plants and subsidiaries worldwide. Turnover in 2022 was put at USD 2.9 bn (EUR 2.7 bn).

In other news, Medical device manufacturer SGH Medical Pharma (Isère, France; www.sgh-medical.com) has announced plans to build a 1,000 m² ISO 8 cleanroom at its Saint-Marcellin facility. Set to be operational by the end of the year, the cleanroom is to have three main areas – injection, assembly, and packaging.

Production has been planned for early 2025, following extensive tests in 2024, the company said. The move, SGH adds, aligns perfectly with the aim of obtaining a pharmaceutical facility certification for the Saint-Marcellin site in Q1 2024.
