LDPE: Incident at Basell Orlen may impact supply / No indication of possible plant damage
An incident at the Plock / Poland site of Basell Orlen Polyolefins (BOP; www.basellorlen.pl), a 50:50 joint venture of LyondellBasell and Polish petrochemical giant PKN Orlen, earlier this week may have impacted LDPE supply. Signals from the market hint at delivery delays and order stops. The company did not immediately respond to a Plasteurope.com query.
All that is known about the incident is that – according to local reports – a reaction within the production network opened emergency valves, a noise resembling an explosion was heard, and black smoke could be seen arising from the site. A spokesperson told Polish media that the production facility sustained no damage.
PIE’s Polyglobe capacity database (www.polyglobe.net) shows that the joint venture has one LDPE plant at Plock, with a capacity of 150,000 t/y, along with a 320,000 HDPE plant and a 400,000 t/y PP plant.
