As of 23 August, Grupa Azoty ATT Polymers (Guben; www.grupaazoty.com), the German subsidiary of Grupa Azoty (Tarnow / Poland), has temporarily shut down its Guben facility, which produces PA 6, high viscosity, due to highly flammable steam escaping from it. The company did not provide any information as to how long the shutdown will last. It is also unclear what the overall implications are for the company due to the production stoppage. The company, one of Europe's largest integrated manufacturers of PA 6, was also unable to confirm whether it had any new incoming orders for PA 6, high viscosity.

The base resin PA 6 is primarily used for extrusion. Grupa Azoty ATT polymers, provided no specific details regarding the capacities at Guben, which is located in northeastern Germany. However, according to the Plasteurope.com database Polyglobe (www.polyglobe.net) the company has a total capacity of around 48,000 t/y at its Guben site.
