South German ethylene pipeline dedicated in Munich
Germany's Ethylene Pipeline South (EPS, Munich; www.eps-pipeline.de), the 370 km-long link connecting crackers at Münchsmünster and Burghausen, in the German state of Bavaria, to the southwestern ARG network at Ludwigshafen, in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, has been officially dedicated and commissioned today in Munich.
EPS is owned by German companies BASF, Vinnolit, Wacker Chemie and German units of LyondellBasell, OMV, Borealis and Clariant. It was initially scheduled to go on stream in 2009, but was held up by right-of-way disputes. The last estimate of construction costs was EUR 200m – see Plasteurope.com of 24.09.2012. Officials estimate the pipeline and associated plants along the entire stretch will ensure 25,000 jobs.
