The news agency Bloomberg reports that India has lifted a 6.5% anti-dumping duty it had imposed on PP imports from Saudi Arabia in November 2010. The measures also extended to polypropylene imported from Oman and Singapore, which Indian authorities said at the time were undervalued and threatened domestic producers. However, Bloomberg said it remained unclear whether the removal of the tariffs also applied to Oman or Singapore.

Among the Saudi Arabian companies affected by the retroactive 30 July 2009 duty were Advanced Petrochemicals Company (Jubail / Saudi Arabia; http://advancedpetrochem.com), National Industrialisation Company (Riyadh / Saudi Arabia) as well as Sabic (Riyadh / Saudi Arabia; www.sabic.com).

While the measure may leave Saudi PP producers somewhat relieved, just a few days later Bloomberg reported that the Turkish government is bringing an anti-dumping case against Sabic’s exports of monoethylene glycol (MEG), an important PET feedstock. Sabic CEO Mohamed Al-Mady reportedly said this was the only anti-dumping case pending against his group at the moment.
