Materials for PET food trays receive thumbs up by Petcore
Petcore Europe (Brussels; https://www.petcore-europe.org/) has given the green light for the use of Swedish chemical producer Perstorp’s (Malmö; www.perstorp.com) Akestra 100 and Akestra 110 materials in the manufacture of heat-resistant PET food trays.

The trade body’s technical committee of the Tray Circularity Evaluation Platform (TCEP) – a voluntary European industry initiative whose responsibilities include providing PET thermoforms design guidelines for recycling – said the use of the two materials would not have a negative impact on current European PET recycling streams.

Welcoming Petcore’s endorsement, Perstorp said, “Akestra 100 and Akestra 110 can help to close the material loop in hot-fill applications to enable circular packaging solutions and a massive saving of fossil raw material and carbon emissions over time.”
