Swedish speciality chemicals producer Perstorp (Malmö; www.perstorp.com) has obtained Food Contact Notification (FCN) 001967 from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for “Pevalen” as a plasticiser in polymers for utilisation in repeated‐use food contact items.

Pevalen (pentaerythritol tetravalerate or PETV) is Perstorp’s high-performance, non-phthalate plasticiser. It is ideal for products in direct human contact such as apparel and accessories, sports and leisure products, automotive interiors or other indoor applications such as furniture, floors or wall coverings in both homes and public spaces. According to Perstorp, Pevalen has a performance not matched by other general-purpose plasticisers with high plasticising efficiency in combination with low migration and volatility.

Perstorp expects global demand for non-phthalate plasticisers to grow at about 100,000 t/y. It is significantly expanding production capacity of Pevalen from 2019 onwards.
