PERSTORP PLASTIC SYSTEMS
Big new order for PET bottle trays / New system replaces bottle crates
Perstorp Plastic Systems, a division of the Perstorp Group (S-28480 Perstorp), has recently received several large orders for its bottle trays and accompanying plastic pallets from the Coca-Cola Company. The trays are to replace bottle crates in the distribution of PET bottles, and are made from recycled plastics. The orders, for delivery during 1997, are worth SEK 10m.
The move to recyclable PET bottles in Scandinavia is leading to changes in the logistics of distribution. The new trays offer many advantages over traditional crates. They can accommodate more bottles, and there is no longer the need to unload bottles onto shelves as they can be displayed directly in the shop on the trays.
Perstorp has produced over 200,000 trays and 40,000 pallets so far, all made from recycled bottle crates. Most have been bought by the Norwegian brewery Ringnes, which has now replaced 70% of its bottle crates with trays for 1.5 l bottles.
