At a meeting held on 14 December, the supervisory board of German chemical giant Bayer (Leverkusen; www.bayer.com) appointed Michael Koenig to the holding company’s management board. Currently part of Bayer MaterialScience’s (BMS, Leverkusen; www.bayerbms.com) executive committee and head of the group’s Polycarbonates business unit, Koenig will assume his new post on 1 April 2013. Come 1 June, he will succeed Richard Pott, who is set to retire.
Under his new duties, Koenig will become labor director and the board member responsible for human resources as well as the Latin America, Africa and Middle East regions. In addition, he will oversee Bayer subsidiary Currenta. In his capacity of BMS board member, Koenig already is responsible for the Asia-Pacific region.
As part of Bayer’s management board reshuffle, group chairman Marjin Dekkers will be placed in charge of strategy, while CFO Werner Baumann will tend to the North America region effective mid-2013.
