After 30 years as head of communications at PlasticsEurope Deutschland (Frankfurt / Germany; www.plasticseurope.org), Kurt Stepping retired in late April 2012. He was sent off by the who-is-who of Germany's plastics industry as well as representatives of European associations and the German canoe sports sector, all of whom gathered in Frankfurt for a grandiose farewell-party to thank him for his years of dedicated work.
After stints at a local newspaper and Frankfurt's bus and railway service RMV, Stepping started his work for PlasticsEurope in 1981, when the association was still called VKE (Verband Kunststofferzeugende Industrie). Among his biggest achievements were the media campaigns of the 1980s and '90s, which significantly improved the image of the plastics sector. In 1996, Stepping was instrumental in the creation of the German "Team Kunststoff" sponsoring initiative, which has achieved international renown in canoe sport and further bolstered the image of plastics.
Kurt Stepping will be succeeded by publicist Michael Herrmann. After working at several newspapers and agencies, Herrmann joined PlasticsEurope Deutschland in 1997, and was most recently tasked with overseeing the association's media relations.
