Randy Woelfel has joined Nova Chemicals (HQ: Calgary / Canada; www.novachemicals.com) and will become CEO following the retirement of Christopher D. Pappas on 31 December 2009. Pappas has held the top job since May 2009. The change is believed to be related to the acquisition of Nova by International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC, Abu Dhabi / UAE; www.ipic.ae) in June – see Plasteurope.com of 09.07.2009.
The CEO-designate, most recently managing director, energy, at the Houston Technology Center and president of bioplastics developer Cereplast (Hawthorne, California / USA; www.cereplast.com), has had a long career in the plastics industry. His previous positions were with LyondellBasell predecessor Basell and in the Shell group.
