Dr. Marijn E. Dekkers to succeed Werner Wenning as Bayer's CEO

Bayer (Leverkusen / Germany; www.bayer.com) announced on 15 September 2009 that its Supervisory Board had appointed Dutch-born Dr. Marijn E. Dekkers (51) to succeed the present CEO Werner Wenning (62). Dekkers is currently president and CEO of US lab equipment manufacturer Thermo Fisher Scientific. Wenning, who has headed Bayer since 2002, is extending his contract by eight months to 30 September 2010.
Dekkers is scheduled to join Bayer’s management board on 1 January 2010 and become CEO on 1 October 2010. For a transition period, he will also head Bayer HealthCare as the present CEO Arthur J. Higgins (52) will be leaving the company in the first half of 2010.
In addition, Bayer’s CFO Klaus Kühn (57) will be retiring on 30 April 2010. The supervisory board has named Werner Baumann (46) as his successor. Baumann is currently a member of the management board and executive committee of Bayer HealthCare.
Dekkers is scheduled to join Bayer’s management board on 1 January 2010 and become CEO on 1 October 2010. For a transition period, he will also head Bayer HealthCare as the present CEO Arthur J. Higgins (52) will be leaving the company in the first half of 2010.
