PC SHEET
European Polycarbonate Sheet Extruders working towards norms, CE mark for PC sheet
The association of European Polycarbonate Sheet Extruders (EPSE, Brussels / Belgium; www.epse.org) currently is working via the European Committee for Standardisation (Comité Européen De Normalisation, CEN, Brussels / Belgium; www.cen.eu) to establish European norms for polycarbonate sheet and set up a CE mark for them.
The efforts also include a proposed CE mark for PC as a building product, classified under the EU Construction Products Regulation. The latter is due to replace the current Construction Products Directive on 1 July 2013. Under the new regime, all construction products have to bear a CE mark, indicating the product’s compliance with EU legislation and enabling free movement of the material within the European market.
However, EPSE warns that a construction product can only receive the CE mark if a European harmonised standard has been published in the Union’s Official Journal as a European Norm (EN), which in turn is issued by CEN. With that in mind, the PC sheet extruders association has been working on CEN TC 128 on “roof covering products for discontinuous laying and products for wall cladding” to realise two new ENs on solid PC sheet (prEN16240) and multiwall PC sheet (prEN16153). EPSE says it expects the standards to be published in 2013.
