European Polycarbonate Sheet Extruders (EPSE, Brussels / Belgium; www.epse.org) in early November announced the winners of its 7th Awards Competition, recognising the most sustainable, innovative and best designed projects made of PC sheets (for previous coverage, see also Plasteurope.com of 13.10.2015). All in all, the jury panel evaluated 15 projects submitted from France, Israel, Italy, Russia, Serbia, Spain and the UK. The "EPSE Awards" were first organised in 2007.
The winner in the sustainability category was the Genoves Park’s Lookout & Protection Building, located in Cadiz / Spain, which protects the species inhabiting Genoves Park from the adjacent marine environment, while at the same time maintaining a feeling of lightness and transparency.
The innovation prize went to "Pearl Inside", a patent consisting of a multiwall PC sheet or panel with micro-glass beads. Aside from providing high thermal insulation, cold bending and impact resistance, the sheet and beads are 100% recyclable, chemically stable and UV resistant. They also offer protection from noise pollution and rain, EPSE said.
The winner of the final category, design, was the Caixa Forum in Zarazoga / Spain. The cultural and social centre’s PC sheets offer uniform illumination with a level of brightness that allows for perfect display while at the same time displaying excellent fire safety characteristics.
