PCD POLYMERS
Flame resistant Daplen PP Types
PCD Polymer GmbH (St. Peter-Str. 25, A-4021 Linz), which claims to be Europe's fifth largest polypropylene producer, has introduced two new flame resistant PP types. The homopolymer "Daplen BE 5012 F4 grey 7037" and the propylene-ethylene block copolymer "Daplen BEC 5012 F4 grey 7037" are compounds meeting building industry B1 requirements for fire retardants according to DIN standard 4102 and V2 according to UL 94. Applications are in domestic sewage pipes, effluent gas pipes and other chemical plant applications, as well as sheet extrusion. Both types are new developments based on homo- and copolymers used for many years as technical intermediates. According to PCD, they are characterised by high yield stress and impact strength, as well as good creep strength under pressure.
Meanwhile, PCD Polymers has received approval from the German Institute for Building Technology (Institut für Bautechnik, Reichpietschufer 74-76, D-10785 Berlin) for its "Daplen BEC 6006" PP random copolymer. The DIBt listing includes moulding materials which demonstrate satisfactory chemical resistance on exposure to a variety of liquids up to 40 C in applications as chemical reaction vessels or parts of vessels. Approval of the types "Daplen BEC 6006 natur" and "Daplen BEC G006 grey" brings the company's listings to four. Homopolymer grades "BE 50" and "BE 60" have been listed for a number of years.
